Day 20 - Tuesday May 9, 2017 - Stockholm

We have to be up early tomorrow as we have a 6.21 am train to Copenhagen so the temptation this morning was to have a lie in, particularly as the bed is very comfortable. However, we resisted the urge and were up at 6.30. The initial plan for today is to walk (probably about 15 – 20 minutes) to the Museum of Modern Art and then return to Gamla Stan and visit the Nobel Museum, which is just up-the-street-and-round-the-corner from the apartment.

As we left the apartment, it started to snow very, very slightly, as it did yesterday – tiny little flakes that were more like hail. All the more puzzling when you looked up and all you saw was blue sky. It soon stopped and the walk over to the Museum of Modern Art was pleasant enough though it was again pretty chilly, though not as cold as yesterday. The main collection of the Museum is free (we like free…) so after spending an hour or so viewing the collection, we stopped in the cafe for coffee. It was continuing to try to snow/hail outside and, once we left, it started rather more heavily though it didn’t last long.

As planned, we walked back to Gamla Stan to visit the Nobel Museum. Although the Museum is relatively small, its displays are very well done. In particular, there was a series of displays, one for each decade. Pick a decade, pick a prize (physics, literature, peace etc.) and it tells you who was awarded the prize each year. Pick a person and it provided some of their history and background.

The bistro at the Museum seems to get good reviews so we opted to have lunch. A different set daily menu each day – today was white onion soup and then cabbage meatloaf with potatoes and lingonberries. The set price of SEK 115 for the two courses is pretty good by Stockholm standards (yesterday’s meatballs, a ‘daily special’, were SEK 139) and the meatloaf was excellent and very tasty.

After lunch, we had a walk around some parts of Gamla Stan we hadn’t been to before. As always, tour groups everywhere so after a while we headed back to the apartment.

After a siesta, we headed down the street for a drink at the restaurant/bar (Restaurang Magnus Ladulas) we had visited the other day.
