Day 27 - Tuesday May 16, 2017 - Amsterdam

We have tickets for the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam’s modern art museum, which we’ll use today. However, the museum doesn’t open until 10 am so probably a leisurely start to the day.

We left the apartment about 9.45 to stroll over to the museum, managing to time our arrival just as they were opening the doors at 10 am. We passed the Moco Museum on the way, where there appear to currently be Banksy and Dali exhbitions. We’ll maybe think about those for tomorrow morning, if we’re not ‘museumed-out’ by then. The permanent collection of the Stedelijk Museum is on the ground floor; the first floor had some current exhibitions, of varying interest to us. It was about 11.30 by the time we’d made our way round both floors so, time for coffee….

We left the museum in search of a tram to take us up in to the centre of town. We just missed a # 5 so hopped on the next one which was a # 12. Although most of the trams end up at Centraal Station, this turned out to be one of the ones that doesn’t so we eventually switched to a # 13 headed for the station, getting off near Dam Square. We walked over to the Square but it didn’t look any better than it did the other day. As we have little interest (or in my case, no interest) in shopping and that area of town has limited appeal, we decided to head back in the direction of the apartment. We stopped off in the coffee shop at the end of the street, then walked over to Aldi to get some butter and coffee to replace what we’d used at the apartment.

While we were having coffee at the Stedelijk Museum, we made an online reservation for dinner at Dubbel, just down the street from the apartment. As before, the immediate online response was in Dutch but, as best we could figure out, was confirming the reservation. An e-mail confirmation subsequently turned up, this time in English, so we’re good to go.
